Micro Chipping

avid-microchip-imageA microchip is about the size of a grain of rice and is typically implanted under the skin between the shoulder blades. It’s a quick and relatively painless procedure, like a vaccination.

Some people worry that microchips store personal information like addresses. This isn’t true! They only contain a unique ID number, linked to your contact details in a database that can only be accessed by authorised users.

All pets must be microchipped under current legislation. This must be done for puppies before they are given to a new home and in cats before they are 20 weeks of age. Most of the time your puppy will have had the microchip administered before you take them home – if not we can provide this service. For kittens we generally recommend the microchip being administered at the second vaccination.

After we administer the microchip, we then will register your details with the database and provide you the documents allowing you to keep the account up to date.

Microchipping for ALL Dogs became mandatory by Law in April 2016 and for ALL cats in June 2024.
