Cats will often suffer from a condition called Feline Odontoclastic Resorption (FORLs) and this is quite commonly picked up as part of a routine health check. It is often painful, most commonly noted when gentle pressure is applied to the tooth and a characteristic spasm of the jaw is seen – this is not normally seen and would not be noticed on the adjacent teeth. The lower premolars are very commonly affected. When identified we are often inclined to recommending dental treatments to remove the affected tooth – no preventative treatment is explicitly thought to be helpful. Careful tooth extraction is the treatment of choice. When examining these patients we will take x-rays of the mouth to check which teeth are affected – a lot can be hidden beneath the gum line – and can guide the appropriate method of extraction.  

Dogs will suffer from a variety of dental complaints but most commonly a progression of periodontal disease. We will occasionally see fractured teeth as well. X-rays are a useful diagnostic tool in aiding decision making with affected teeth and are generally recommended for all routine treatments. 

Dental treatment pricing has seen a surge in expected costs for owners across the profession. We have noted that our prices have remained consistently lower than seen generally in the profession and we will like to maintain that stance.
